Computer Science and Engineering (Data Science)

About the Department:

The institution was a pioneer in offering engineering programs in emerging technologies and started offering B. Tech in Data Science in the year 2020 with an intake of 60. Department of Data Science has experienced faculty members with domain expertise, global certifications in cutting edge technologies, and modern infrastructure facilitating students and staff to work on all types of Data Science use cases.

Department of Data Science holds exclusive domain specific MOUs apart from institutional MOUs. Quality education is offered by employing active learning strategies, involving students in project based learning, internships through domain specific organizations, and funding for innovative projects. Students are encouraged to take up projects in community service and deploy technology solutions for community problems to be in line with the vision and mission of the department.

The role of a Data Science Engineer

Data Science is one of the emerging technologies in the computer science and engineering stream. Data Science comprises core engineering courses, mathematics, and statistics. Due to rapid digitalization, extremely large-scale data is being generated today. This voluminous data is processed and analyzed to gain deep insights into the data which can help in making strategic decisions. Predictive analytics, recommendation systems, logistics, health care, computer vision, speech recognition, Business Intelligence, etc. are applications of Data Science. Data science is being employed by every organization to offer value-added services to customers and maintain a competitive edge. An engineering graduate in Data Science can be employed in emerging job roles like Data Analyst, Data Engineer, and Data Scientist.

Head of department message

Kancham Ramya – Assistant Professor & HOD

Department of Data Science, started in the year 2020, under its visionary management, with two decades of rich experience in offering quality engineering education. Data Science is one of the nine emerging areas identified by AICTE and Govt. of India. Availability of technology, usage of smartphones, social media, and online applications have led to the creation of extremely large scales of data from a variety of sources and heterogeneous in nature.

A blend of statistics and computer science engineering skills is required to store, process, and analyze the data leading to the creation of a new engineering program called Data Science. There is an acute shortage of skilled professionals in the field of Data Science and hence the opportunities are unlimited. As a Leader with a team of certified faculty members, I take pride in leading the department with an assurance of professional career accomplishment to all the Data Science aspirants.
